Rainbow Promise United Church of Christ held its first formal worship service on June 2, 1996. With humble beginnings in home settings, the congregation found an early home at the Unitarian Church in Lakeland. In 2003 the congregation purchased and moved to its current location. Our journey also led us to affiliate with the United Church of Christ in May, 2009.We are a mix of people from many denominational and theological backgrounds. Our life stories are as varied and colorful as a patchwork quilt! We are eager to provide a safe space, an extravagant welcome and warm hospitality to all who enter our doors. We celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of each expression of God’s diverse family as well as our oneness in Christ as we live in openness to the voice of the still-speaking God. As a recent United Church of Christ ad proclaimed, Our faith is 2000 years old; our thinking is not! Rooted in our tradition we strive to “Honor the tradition but expand the understanding. That’s what religions must do right now if they hope to be helpful to humans in the years ahead“ (Neale Donald Walsch, Tomorrow’s God).
